New Titles for Association Officers – Channel Dredging Completed on Time
Lake Havasu City, AZ: To begin the new year, the Lake Havasu Marine Association announced changes in key association officer designations for 2012. Jim Salscheider, currently Executive Director, will now be President and CEO of the association. Jody Gamble, now Vice President, becomes Chairman, and Jason Reeves, former Past President assumes the title of Vice Chairman. Continuing in their present assigned designations for the association will be Judy Whelan, Secretary, and Dan Mathews, Treasurer. At large Directors of the LHMA for the coming year will be Gary Kellogg, Carl Flusche, Shirley Smith, Thom Felke and new member Jim Dolan.
The Lake Havasu Marine Association has just concluded an ambitious 2011 season of boating improvement projects highlighted by the recent completion of a new navigable deep-water channel connecting the north end of Lake Havasu with the mouth of the river gateway to Topock Gorge and Needles. “We were operating under a very strict timeline to finish dredging by the December 31 deadline, but we did it,” commented Jim Salscheider, LHMA President and CEO. “Normal water levels should return in the next few weeks, and I believe boaters headed north up-river will find the new channel to be a significant enhancement to boater safety and enjoyment when cruising the lake. The obstacle of excessive shallow water in the area has been eliminated and boaters following the buoyed channel markers will now experience unrestricted access.”
Also a major success for the local marine association in 2011 was Designated Operator, an aggressive voluntary safety campaign aimed at encouraging all boaters to have a sober captain at the helm. “We definitely made a difference this past year in curbing the number of intoxicated boat operators on the lake,” continued Salscheider. “Law enforcement agencies reported fewer OUIs (operating under the influence) and a noticeable awareness of the campaign on the part of many boaters. We’ll continue this program again in 2012 with the support of our sponsors, law enforcement and entire boating community.”
The Lake Havasu Marine Association has just concluded the most successful Lake Havasu Boat Show in its 21 year history with more than 130 exhibitors and displayed boats and marine products valued over $25 million. The Lake Havasu Boat Show has grown to become the largest consumer boat show in Arizona. Dates for the 2013 boat show are April 19-20-21.
